In the first version of the Book of Judges, the kernel, if you will, the Israelites who settle the land are not Jewish; they are only Israelites, since the tribe of Judah does not appear at all in the book Surprisingly, the judges in this earliest version of the Book of Judges are not judges in any sense of the word. The first is a left-handed maverick warrior, the second is a singer and a prophetess, and the third is on a personal quest for revenge.
